When you were little, did you ever dream of becoming a fireman? When children are asked what they want to be when they grow up, many claim they want to be a firefighter. What is the appeal? Is it the big shiny fire truck, the powerful water hose, the cute firehouse dog, the protective gear and classic red hardhat? While there are many things to attract children to the occupation of a firefighter, I like to think their dreams are not as superficial as that. Maybe children see firefighters as professionals who risk their lives to save others and selflessly dedicate their lives to their career. It is not an easy job and many of us realize as we get older the time, effort and dedication it takes to become a fireman is more difficult than we had imagined and consequently we chose a different line of work. Therefore today we should show our appreciation for firefighters all over the world who work day after day to protect us.
Today remember to wear a blue and red ribbon pinned together to show your support to firefighters everywhere.
Egg Carton Fire Truck
What you need:
Lid (TOP) of an egg carton
Red spray paint
black construction paper for wheels and ladder
Lid (TOP) of an egg carton
Red spray paint
black construction paper for wheels and ladder
Instructions:
Cut the lid off an egg carton. (Adults Only) spray paint the lid red. While the paint is drying, cut 2 circles out of black construction paper for the wheels and ladder, decorate with white crayons (an easy way to make a ladder is to fold a piece of construction paper in half and cut out a long skinny rectangle out of the fold in the paper. Then cut little rectangles along the fold of your skinny rectangle. When you are done cutting, unfold the paper and viola you have a ladder.)

Once the paint is dry, glue on the wheels, and the ladder. Then let them use black marker to write "FIRE" on the truck. Get creative with it. You can cut out images of people and glue them onto the fire truck. The children can glue pictures of themselves as the driver and their siblings or friends as their crew.

Paper Dalmatian
What you Need:
Square piece of white paper
Pad of black ink
Black crayon or marker
What you Need:
Square piece of white paper
Pad of black ink
Black crayon or marker
What to do:
Take your square pieces of white paper and rotate it so that the points face up and down. Next fold the square so that the top point meets the bottom point to look like a triangle. Hold the triangle so that the base is on top. The point at the bottom will become the nose of the Dalmatian. The two points at the sides will become the ears. Turn each ear point down so that they fold over to the front of the dog and are separated by a short straight line at the top of the dog's head. Draw black eyes and a black nose using the black crayon or marker. Finally add spots to make the dalmatian look realistic by pressing your thumb into the black ink pad and then quickly pressing your thumb anywhere on the dog to make spots.

For International Firefighter’s Day I thought it just seemed right to make Hot wings.

4 tablespoons Cajun seasoning
2 Tablespoons Garlic Salt

Turn and broil the wings for another 10 to 15 minutes, or until chicken is cooked through (juices run clear).
